Spotted: dalmatian is trending, and we are drooling about it. From Crissy Teigan on vacay in Italy to Kansas City’s favorite canine, Doug the Great Dane at Bar K, everyone is sporting these spots. After all, chic is the new neutral.

you guys, we’ve been missing our blogging days and the truth is, we constantly have our eye out for new and unique color combinations or emerging patterns! OR—both, fresh pattern or icons taking a new life with an innovative palette and that’s exactly how we landed here! You all know we are rainbow-lovers, but our favorite subject matter done in a toned-down, muted palette is giving us LIFE! Do you love it as much as we do?

We absolutely love when our work shows up in our favorite stores - and when it’s a brand like Pottery Barn… ack! So cool!! We’re beyond flattered, to say the least, that TWO of our art prints are now available at Pottery Barn | Modern Baby! How exciting is that?! Both Pink Reflections, courtesy of a Minted partnership, and our Peace Sign Print, a Chasing Paper collaboration, are now available. And with several framing options too! These babes are going to have some very hip nurseries. It almost (we said, ALMOST) makes us want to have more…
Well, it happened...WE OPENED A SHOP!!!!
Our very first brick and mortar space inside the new Made in KC Marketplace is here, and we are SO excited to be able to say those words!!! We can’t wait for you to come by and see it!!! We have lots of super soft t-shirts, tote bags, planners & calendars, serving platters, glassware, art prints and a brand new greeting card line!!!!!!!!!!! We've lost our minds designing things but it's all feeling very worth it as we load things into OUR SHOP!!!!
Before we go too much further, we really want to thank all of the people that helped make this happen, cause you know we couldn't have pulled this off on our own!!
We are so lucky to work with the most amazing team at Made in Kansas City. Keith, Thomas & Tyler are the masterminds behind Made in KC. They can do. it. all. And we mean ALL. So when they approached us with their latest idea to open a Marketplace on the Country Club Plaza (a must visit spot in KC!), we were flattered and we knew if anyone could pull this off, they could!!! THANK YOU, guys for asking us to be a part of this brilliant concept!! A major thanks, as well, to the whole team at MIKC! Ariel, the manager of the marketplace has been an amazing resource, and we think you'll find when you visit, that everyone who works at the store is incredibly helpful and friendly.
As we started getting our minds around a physical store, we started planning our retail display, product line and inventory lists, and we quickly realized what a huge undertaking this would be. We couldn't dream of making this happen without our studio manager, Kate Edwards, who is a literal super woman!! In fact, we talked to her and made sure she was on board before we even said yes to this endeavor because we were that sure that we couldn't make it happen on our own. Kate, THANK YOU, for keeping us on track, helping us with all communication and coming up with ways to streamline the process and always make it seem like anything is possible!! We are so grateful for you!!! Not to mention those spreadsheets that you know we'd mess up if we were left to our own devices.
We also called in Morgan's dad, Craig Shaw of Shaw Hofstra + Associates as our architect to bring the vision into reality. He spent countless hours drawing plans, offering advice and meeting with us to figure out the best way to construct the space. His expertise was priceless since we had no experience constructing a retail environment! Thank you!
We partnered with Nick of Skookum Supply Co. to build the plywood shelves, tables and modular pegboard wall of our dreams! We added tables, greeting card shelves, a gift wrap display rack to his agenda, and we have a feeling we aren't done bothering him yet! He was very patient with our evolving ideas!
Once again, we worked with See More signs for our neon and decals. We always recommend them for signage; they're the best!
Huge thanks go out to our husbands, Dan & Zack, for always supporting our crazy dreams and then physically helping us build them...this time by means of our all white lacquer floor installation! These two really don't bat an eye when we pitch these types of projects to them, often on short notice. Then, they give up relaxing evenings to do tiring manual labor. For this particular project, we even roped in Morgan's dad and cousin, Devin, for the flooring as well. Thanks, guys!
So it truly takes a village. THANK YOU to all of you for your support!!! And speaking of support, thanks to everyone who has taken a trip to see the shop in person! All of your kind words about it, purchases and photos in the space make our day! We are so grateful for every Ampersand fan cheering us along in this journey! Thank you all!
The shop inside the Made in KC Marketplace is now up and running and Made in KC called this their most ambitious project to date! This project is a true celebration of the talent, artistry, and innovation of our growing community in Kansas City. Inside the 8,000 square foot all-local Marketplace you'll find new unique products, unexpected flavors, and endless inspiration. The Marketplace houses dozens of brands in a variety of formats. There are permanent mini-shops as well as seasonal displays that will rotate throughout the year. And it also includes, drumroll please.... the very first Made in KC Bar! In the back of the Marketplace, you can taste many of Kansas City's local beers and wines. A cocktail menu will be added soon as well as flights of whiskey, gin, wine, and beer. And of course, what's the maker scene without Kansas City Roasted Coffee? The second Made in KC Cafe is located right at the entrance so you can sip on a signature Café Au Oui (a cereal milk latte, for the uninitiated), cold brew, or latte while you shop!
We hope you stop by and when you do, make sure to visit and say hello to all of our friends: Sew KC, Family Tree Nursery, Christopher Elbow Chocolates, Bell Boy Apparel, Made Urban Apparel, Boh Buh KC, Kansas City Canning Co., Emily Bordner, 1KC, Wonderboy Apparel, Flint and Field, Sandlot Goods, Farmdog Studios, Ice Cream Bae and

Field Trip is back and we are counting down the days! Field Trip is a pattern and illustration event that we helped conceive with a small, diverse group of established artists in 2016. This year, it takes place on Monday, May 21, 2018, in a beautiful, light-filled loft, close to other Design Week events taking place on the same day at the Javits Center.
Our goal in starting Field Trip three years ago was to depart from trade show norms. We wanted to show our work in a more curated and intimate setting, where artists and clients could relax and really enjoy the experience of engaging with one another. The concept was successful from the outset, resulting in many exciting collaborations with leading retailers.
The show gives clients and artists the chance to get together, review new artwork for purchase or license, and discuss collaborations. Clients can expect to see beautiful prints, patterns and illustrations, in a variety of different styles — from clean and organic, to bold and graphic, to quirky and hand-painted.
The show is fun and informal. Guests can sip cocktails, sample the candy bar, and listen to great music, while browsing through stunning artwork from artists with well-established brands.
The event was conceived by artists, and is totally planned by the artists participating — it’s a really inspiring collaboration for all of us. This year’s artists are Ampersand Design Studio, Bikini Sous La Pluie, Carolyn Suzuki, Elizabeth Olwen, Kelly Ventura, Nottene, Suzy Ultman, Jillian Phillips, Sara Boccaccini Meadows, Victoria Johnson and Monika Forsberg.
Field Trip is a trade-only event, and attendance is by invitation only. For more information or if you are an Art Director, Buyer, or potential collaborator interested in attending future events, please request an invite on our website. Hope to see you there!
