Thoughtfully Wrapped Gifts

Ampersand Design Studio

SCOTCH_AMPERSAND_1.jpg

There's nothing quite like giving a thoughtfully wrapped gift -- but that doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of extra money to make it special. This holiday season, we partnered with Scotch to come up with three great ways to resourcefully personalize your gift wrap with things you might already have at home.

Giving the kids a quick and fun little activity to do while they wait to open the present is a really fun way to prolong the suspense! Whether they love the challenge of a word search or would prefer to color in a motif, this idea is easy to personalize. For one kid we might do trucks, for another some stars, but these evergreen trees are always a sure sign of the winter holidays. The only supplies needed are solid color paper, a permanent marker, crayons and tape. We used Scotch® GiftWrap Tape for the semi-gloss white gift wrap, and Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to secure the crayons.

For that special girlfriend, why not try making your very own tissue paper pom bow with her favorite colors? This easy personal touch can feel really special, and only takes a couple of minutes. We used Scotch® GiftWrap Tape for the semi gloss chartreuse gift wrap, Scotch® Magic™ Tape for the metallic blue and the tissue pom bow, and Scotch® Double Sided Tape to secure the bow to the package.

For the kids, transforming a simple, solid color package into their favorite friendly creature is a surefire way to make their eyes light up! The polar bear and bunny are so easy to create with just some extra paper, markers and tape. We used Scotch® Magic™ Tape for wrapping the uncoated kraft paper, and Scotch® GiftWrap Tape for the semi-gloss solid white gift wrap. We also used Scotch™ Expressions Washi Tape in pink glitter for the bunny's ears and nose, and Scotch™ Double Sided Tape to attach the paper animal parts.

Mom's Night Out Tea Towel Craft at Studio Nod

Ampersand Design Studio

We had the absolute pleasure of hosting a Mom's Night Out workshop at Studio Nod while we were in Chicago last month. For those of you who couldn't be there with us in person, we thought we'd share the craft tutorial with you right here! We're going to walk you through the super-easy steps to hand print your own tea towels! Using your choice of colors of fabric paint and tea towels, you can easily make your own custom design! Let's do it!

• Rubber Carving Block

• Scissors

• Fabric Paint

• Foam Brush

Step 1: First, use the scissors to cut out shapes from the rubber carving block. The shapes can be anything you want! You can cut lots of different shapes or just one and repeat it over and over. The possibilities are endless!

Step 2: Use the foam brush to paint one side of your rubber shape

Step 3: Press the painted side of your shape onto the tea towel. Once it is positioned, make sure to press down on all sides to ensure an even transfer.

Step 4: Repeat! That's all there is to it! Pick another shape...or the same shape...a new paint color...or repeat the same! The shapes can overlap or never touch. Play around with what you like best!

See! It’s easy, right? We sure hope you have fun with this! Grab some friends and put together your own craft night! Tag @thelandofnod so we can see what you come up with!

Ampersand for Command // Trend: Bright & Merry

Ampersand Design Studio

 BrightandMerry_trend_1_NEW

BrightandMerry_trend_1_NEW

For kids or kids-at-heart, Christmas is pure FUN! Bright & Merry captures the more playful side of the holidays. It’s irreverent and punchy. Neon has made it’s resurgence in the past few years in home decor and it’s here to stay, now infiltrating holiday decor as well! These fluorescent tones are the brightest colors imaginable and can seem overwhelming when standing alone. Mixing these neons with a neutral, whether it’s raw wood or kraft paper, gives it a new, more livable vibe. Color-blocking and color-dipping play a role in Bright & Merry as does the glossy feel of acrylic. Let the neon glow as bright as the tree lights!

We felt like the Bright & Merry trend was the perfect place to do something kids would love, and the idea of an advent calendar was our first thought! It's so hard for little ones to be patient while waiting for Christmas so an advent calendar is great for making the time leading up to it fun, too.

The calendar we designed was something that we would've never even considered had we not been using Command™ products. There is no way we'd put a million nails in our wall to achieve this one. We decided to really leverage the Command™ Small Picture Hanging StripsCommand™ Quartz Spring Clips and Command™ Small Wire Hooks to do something we couldn't do without them. They allowed us to use all different sizes of boxes, bags and envelopes to fit our gifts and hang them knowing they would come right off the wall with no marks after the holidays. We think this one will be a winner with our own kids!
