Game Day at the University of Kansas

Ampersand Design Studio

Well, it's scorching hot here in Kansas City this week, but with the kids heading back to school, we can't help but feel like fall isn't too far away. Along with our visions of pumpkin patches, apple-picking and pumpkin spice lattes, we are getting excited for football season at our alma mater, KU! Morgan and I are both born & bred Jayhawks from the University of Kansas and even met there while we studied Graphic Design. So, we hopped at the chance to share our love for game day at KU and give away an amazing prize to one lucky reader!

If you haven't been to a football game at Memorial Stadium, you should really check it out! It is an electric energy from the tailgating to the game itself. We, of course, loved going to games while we were in school, but now that we have kids, we are absolutely loving taking them to experience what we loved so much as kids. I remember going to games as a little girl with my parents, stopping at Joe's on the way in for a sandwich and cookies, and heading up to the hill.

Even though it was fun to go to games back in our day, it is even better now! KU has made game day a blast for kids. They now have a Hy-Vee Hawk Zone that opens two and a half hours before kick-off and closes at the end of the first quarter. The fun zone includes inflatable games, live radio broadcasts, tackling station/drills, face painting, a balloon artist, free KU promotional items, fan photo booth and visits from KU student-athletes to sign autographs to name a few. Our boys will be in heaven now that they're old enough to do all of these fun activities!

To make the experience even better for kids, they can join the Junior Jayhawk Kids Club, which is The Official Kids Club of Kansas Athletics for all kids ages 13 & under. For just $45, your child receives tickets to several different KU games, really nice KU gear and admission to special KU events!

In honor of the start of the football season, we have the honor of giving away a great prize pack from the Kansas Athletic Department! We are SO excited to be able to give away a complete game day experience for one lucky family including all of these goodies:

•   A single game family 4-pack of tickets to a KU football game of your choice

•   One $50 gift card to Downtown Lawrence

•   One Junior Jayhawk Kids Club membership

Good luck! We hope to see all of you Jayhawk fans in Lawrence this fall! Rock Chalk!

Our little guys are heading back to school (each of our boys is starting preschool) this week and next and that means it's time for back to school gear! Is there anything better than a new box of crayons and that first day of school outfit? We spent some time hunting for some things that would make heading back to the classroom a little more fun. Happy school days! For Boys:

8 days a week: thanks for caroline ritter

Ampersand Design Studio

We found Caroline Ritter's site, 'Lina Bean, awhile back and fell in love with her beautiful designs for babies and kids. So, we were hopeful that she would lend her talents to our 8 Days a week project and were thrilled when she agreed. She created the stylish and functional pieces below in our fabrics and we couldn't be more thrilled. Caroline sells crayon rolls and carry-alls like these in her shop along with many other adorable things like capes, ties and pillows. The craftsmanship on Caroline's products is flawless and the crayon roll, in particular was a huge hit with Morgan's son, Shaw. We love that it can roll up and be tucked in a purse or diaper bag to be used at restaurants or anywhere a busy toddler needs to be occupied. Both of these designs are Caroline's own creations. We're so impressed!

Thank you, Caroline, for sharing your talent with us! We love what you made with our fabrics!

8 Days a Week: thank you to Monica Spiehs

Ampersand Design Studio

We are so excited to introduce you to Monica Spiehs and her mad sewing and pattern designing skills! We can't even express how lucky we were that Monica volunteered to help us with our sewing projects! She was a rock star taking on so many pieces and designing them as well. We just gave her a few thoughts on what we were looking for and she made them come to life! She made the a-line skirt in the yellow polka dot fabric, worn by Michelle from her own design. Then, she created the little numbers dress with the ruffled sleeves for her own daughter, Lilli. We can't even handle the cuteness of both, the dress and Lilli! Really, are you kidding with how darling that dress and all its little details are (the yellow buttons, the pink top stitching... ahhh!)? Then, there's the baby romper, modeled by sweet Amya! Another dose of sweetness overload, no?! We just loved the ideas Monica had for how to make our fabrics come to life! We are pestering her to start making patterns for the rest of us to use because they are just too good not to be out there in the world! As if those weren't enough amazing projects for her to take on, she did our flag banner as well. So cute for a nursery or kid's playroom, don't you think? Monica: thank you doesn't even cut it. We are so grateful for your talent! Thank you for your time and generosity and for supplying one of our lovely models! We can't even wait to see what Monica is up to next. We are hopeful it includes some patterns for her designs or some kid's clothes!
